EE 1.6.x Error chokes on undefined function get_instance()

Hi George,
Downloaded the v.2. package which looks like it's set up for EE 2.x, though documentation suggests can also be used for 1.6.x.
It falls over because get_instance() isn't available in 1.6.x, or at least the 1.6.x I was testing in (an older version I'm afraid 1.6.4).

I've chosen a bad way of doing things in Git :-(
I'm using tags to denote 1.x and 2.x releases so on the downloads page the 1.0.0 release is probably the one you want.
I'm going to move all plugins into just one download with EE1 & EE2 folders!
